About the city
Istanbul has a population of 18 million people, and more than 6 million foreigners live in the city. The city’s climate is cold in winter and moderate in summer. It consists of two parts, European and Asian, separated by the Bosphorus Strait and connected by three bridges and a tunnel under the sea.
The Asian side of Istanbul is considered the modern face of the city, with an abundance of modern buildings and wide streets that are rarely seen in the European side of Istanbul. This part is relatively quiet and less crowded compared to the other side, and it is rich in green spaces and is a center for many international companies.
The Asian side of Istanbul contains many tourist attractions, including the Kadıköy district, which is considered similar to the Taksim district. There is also the Maiden’s Tower in the Üsküdar district, and the Bosphorus waterfront on the Asian side is the widest, so there are many cafes, squares, and parks, such as Emirgan Park, Mihrabat Park, and Yıldız Park, overlooking the Bosphorus. There are also many palaces along the Bosphorus that date back to the Ottoman era, such as Beylerbeyi Palace, Küçüksu Palace, and Çubuklu Palace. It also includes many historical buildings such as Haydarpaşa Garı and Selimiye Kışlası. There are also many Ottoman mosques in the Asian side, including the Çamlıca Mosque, which is one of the largest mosques in Turkey and is located on the Çamlıca Hill overlooking the Bosphorus, which is known to the Arab community as the Hill of Brides. One of the most famous streets in the Asian side of Istanbul is Baghdad Street, which is considered one of the most prestigious streets in Istanbul.
